FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HOOPING

What the heck is "hooping", anyway?

Hooping, or hoopdance, is a great way to shake your booty and feel like a kid again! It's part dance, part workout, and 100% fun. All you need is a hoop, some great music, a little bit of room, and you're ready to go! There are plenty of videos on YouTube to get you started, as well as companies that sell instructional videos, and some helpful hooper websites listed below.

Why are your hoops so big?

You're probably used to seeing those kids' plastic hula hoops that they sell in the toy store... well, they're in the toy store because they're made for KIDS! Adults need a bigger, heavier hoop to keep the momentum going. The perfect hoop for you should, when you stand it on end, reach somewhere between your waist and chest. Tailspin hoops measure between 41 and 43 inches, which fit most adults. We do make hoops in sizes for older kids -- ask us about sizes and prices!

Where can I go to learn more about hooping?

There are a number of great places to get all the info you need to start hooping. Below are some helpful bulletin boards to get you started! Also, don't forget to check out YouTube -- there are some amazing hoopers out there who have put their videos online so you can learn from them!

Hooping.org - the mecca of hoop sites! Instructional videos, photos, articles on hooping, and a bulletin board to connect with hoopers all over the world.

Tribe.net - do a search on here for "hooping", and you'll discover both local and national groups, or "tribes", with bulletin boards set up to talk about all things hoop.

For Philly locals - there is a weekly class at the Iron Works Gym taught by J-Hoop, one of the best instructors in the area.
